What is the National Retreat?

The Lutheran Church of Australia had seen a need for ministry in Tertiary study, from this requirement a new era of young adults ministry of born and was named as the Lutheran Students Fellowship, and this was developed to fill this need between youth and adult ministry, through providing monthly church services, on campus and off campus ministry and theological discussions, along with a wide variety of  camps, which included commencement camps (at the start of the uni year), mid year/mid semester camps and national retreats (previously conferences, but was changed with the changing nature of these camps).

The National Retreat is an annual, low key, social event for people aged 18 and up to explore and dive into a wide variety of spiritual discussions and topics, where each year the host state creates and develops topics and themes for these discussions to be based on, it has seen topics from spiritual warfare (based on the Call of Duty franchise) through to God vs the Church, where the two kingdoms of the church was looked into, along with issues that surround us in today's society.

This camp allows chance for our young adults to join together and relax, unwind through a variety of activities, including laughter, Card games and board games, late nights, fun electives and a variety of outdoor games and activities including a 20/20 cricket match, Kuub and Fiska (Norse/viking outdoor strategy games based on bowling and horse shoes) along with a formal dinner.

The camp is commonly held between the 28th of December and the 2nd of January the following year. but it has been held as late as the 16th of January.

In the past, the Retreat has been held in South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria on a rotation basis. We have been lucky enough to have previous retreats in:

Neerim East, Victoria                                     Barossa Valley, South Australia

Warrambui, New South Wales                     Halls Gap, Victoria

                             Mylor, South Australia                                   Alexandra, Victoria

                             Coolum, Queensland

Throughout the years we continue to welcome and encourage everyone who has attended in the past, as well as any new comers who wish to experience retreat.

I come from a small church. I really like camps like LSF because not only am I with Christians my own age (which I don't get at my home congregation) but this is camp has a relaxed atmosphere, and everyone over the camp really tries to become friends with everyone. Some camps have exclusive circles but this one welcomes in new people and tries hard to find them. I also enjoy that this camp isn't a local based camp but the whole Christian church is invited, I am friends with people from South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria. There's also a good balance between activities, bible studies and socializing and rest and relaxation.
